Happy Holidays!
We had a holiday party at our last Awesome Club meeting for the season. We decorated sugar cookies with frosting and red and green sprinkles. Some of the kids chose to make cards for their loved ones telling them why they were thankful for them. Others had a fun time drawing portraits of Awesome Club members and leaders. Later, we played the Snowman Game--one person plays the snowman and others have to try to get him/her to laugh or smile. There were some great jokes and tactics thrown out to try to get the snowman to crack a smile! We also played Silent Ball (which seems to be an overall favorite this year). Awesome Club will be back in session this spring. We will keep you posted on the details!

Today was a fun day! Per usual, we started off with our snack and informal chatting about our week. We then went into the atrium to play silent ball. Several kids had fun making up crazy rules to make the game harder (one eye closed, use one hand to throw and catch the ball, stand on one foot, stand on one foot while hopping, jump on both feet while spinning in a circle, etc. It got pretty wild!). After that we played several games of Mafia--some of the kids took turns playing the Narrator. At the end, the kids split up according to what they wanted to do: keep playing Mafia or build something as a group with Connects. I met with several parents to distribute information about Awesome Club moving to the college campus next Semester and to collect parent contact information in order to make this happen. If you did not attend the parent meeting, please click the Contact link above and email me! Next week is our last week of Awesome Club until Spring. We will be having a Holiday party!
Today at Awesome Club, we started (as usual) with a snack and some time to chat with each other about how our weeks were going. We had some new kids today, so we introduced ourselves in a name game to make sure everyone knew each other. We took advantage of the beautiful weather we've been having and did some activities outside including Silent Ball and Glob Tag. We also played the Alibi game. Next Tuesday, there will be a brief parent information meeting at 4pm following Awesome Club.
We had a FANTASTIC first day at Awesome Club! We had some new kids this year who came to the middle school from the local elementary schools, so we spent some time getting to know one another. We had some juice and goldfish crackers while we chatted and got to know each other one on one for a while. Then, we officially introduced ourselves by saying our name, age, and something exciting they were looking forward to. Thanksgiving and Christmas were on many of our minds! We also played the Yes/No game. A leader asks a yes or no question and to answer, everyone goes to either the "yes" wall or the "no" wall. For example, if the question was, "Do you like videogames?," people would go to the wall that answered the question for them personally. In this case, of course, EVERYONE went to the yes wall because EVERYONE loves video games! Then, we had the chance to say if we had a favorite video game or game station. We also played 4 Corners, Silent Ball, and Mafia. We had a blast! I'm so looking forward to next Tuesday!
