On Wednesday, October 26, I attended the Mpact Talent Show at Redeeming Love Church in Maplewood. Mpact is a church program for elementary-aged girls. Each month, they discuss a theme from the Bible to help them develop into servant leaders for their communities and for God. This month's theme revolved around sharing their God-given talents with others. I was invited by Stacie McBride-Cox, a sponsor and alumni of the Miss Minnesota Organization, to perform a few songs and to emcee the event. I was so impressed by these ladies! It took a lot of courage for them to get up on that stage and perform for between 50 and 100 audience members! They sang, danced, showed their artwork, and played piano! One young lady even composed an original piano piece. They did a wonderful job, and I left the event feeling so encouraged knowing that these ladies will grow up to be Christian leaders who use their gifts to share God's love. Thank you Stacie for including me in this event!
On Saturday, I attended the very first Miss Minneapolis/Miss St. Paul pageant. I arrived at Hopkins High School at 11:30am for a Miss America mock interview. A big thank you to the judges for interviewing me and providing me with so much helpful feedback, and an even bigger thank you to Ashley Jacobson, the executive director of Miss M/SP, for arranging the mock interview! It was incredibly helpful! For the next few hours, I ate, and rehearsed, and ate again with the 9 ladies competing for the titles that evening. (Yes, they fed us very well...too well! Jimmy John's, Famous Dave's, and pastries and cookies galore!) Thank you to Ashley and Jodi for letting me co-host the pageant with my Miss Minnesota sister, Miss Minnesota 2010 Kathryn Knuttila, and for allowing me to perform FOUR songs AND sell my CDs (Thanks for camping out at the CD table for me, Mom!)! It was a fun experience! Ashely and Jodi hosted a fabulous pageant. They gained numerous sponsorships and rallied an incredible group of beautiful, smart, and exceptionally talented contestants. I am excited to see this dual pageant grow in years to come. Congratulations to Niila Wittiko, the new Miss Minneapolis, and Elizabeth Scipioni, the new Miss St. Paul! You have an amazing year ahead of you!
