Most people fear public speaking more than death. Not Natalie! She thrives on it!
Natalie was the captain of her high school's speech team and qualified for the state competition twice. She was also an avid participant in the theatre program at her high school; in fact, her One Act Play ensemble starred at the state competition in 2008. Natalie has been trained well in the area of communication as an actress and speech team competitor in high school and a mass communications student at St. Cloud State University. Natalie has also honed her public speaking and communication skills under the tutelage of communication expert, Don Baker.
As a motivational speaker, Natalie has captivated audiences with her personal story and insight into living with a loved one with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). During her year as Miss Minnesota, she was the official spokesperson for the Autism Society of Minnesota. At the 2012 Autism Society State Conference, Natalie shared her thoughts about the powerful impact passionate teachers have on children with special needs. She addressed a crowd of thousands at the annual Steps of Hope Autism Awareness Walk at Ridgedale Mall and also spoke at the State Capitol on National Autism Awareness Day. Natalie had the incredible experience of facilitating a lunchtime presentation and discussion at the Governor’s residence to engage senators, state representatives, and members of the Department of Health in a dialogue about the major issues facing Minnesota’s ASD community. Natalie has also spread her message of hope for people impacted by ASD by presenting at Rotary Clubs, Lions Club, classrooms, and community events. She spoke to over 700 boy scouts at the 2012 Gamehaven Merit Badge Fair in Rochester, MN and was interviewed in a training video for troop leaders working with Boy Scouts who have neurobiological disorders such as ASD.
As Miss Minnesota, Natalie used her strong extemporaneous speaking and interpersonal skills to promote the Miss America Organization and its values of scholarship and service. She also served as an ambassador and official spokesperson for the Miss America Organization's national service platform, the Children's Miracle Network Hospitals.
